If you’ve been following along with me for the last few months, you have probably been quite invested in my basement bathroom renovation.  What started off as a storage closet (with bathroom plumbing) finally reached it’s full potential.

 

Today I’m going to share a full cost breakdown of this project so that if you’re planning a similar renovation, you’ll be able to more accurately budget for your project. Where possible, I have included the price after taxes.

*Full disclosure; some of the items in this project were gifted to me in exchange for social promotion however I’ll be outlining the full cost of each item for transparency.

This element of the bathroom was one of the first elements completed and it really came together almost exactly as I imagined.

Here are the products we used and a complete cost breakdown:

• Vanity – $2,015.99 (has since increased in price)
• Mirror – $230.44
• Faucet – $123.33
• Light – $159.99
• Miscellaneous decor and construction supplies – approx $200

Total: $2529.75

 

Toilet Area

Toilet – $900

Artwork (HomeSense) – $79.99

Toilet Brush (HomeSense) – $19.99

Hardware – approx $350

Bath mat and towels (Target) – $50

Shower

Shower Plumbing – $340.41

Tiles

I’m creating a separate section for tiles as it was a large cost item in this bathroom and something that people often want the product name to be easily accessible.  I was lucky to work with a partner on this project (The Floor Show Winnipeg) and all the tile for this project can be sourced from there.  My code HEATHER15 saves you 15% if mentioned before pricing (expires May 30, 2022).

 

Tiles in arch behind sink + shower wall tiles – Artisan White by Centura Tile 2×8 – 121.44 SF – $1247.19

Shower Floor Tiles – Avorio by Ceratec Essentials 2×2 – 17 SF – $67.83

Bathroom Floor Tiles – Chicago Skydeck by Ceratec 24×24 – 52 SF – $307.32

Grout, Schluter, Mortar, Shower kit, etc – $1154

Total after tax: $3110.23

 

Additional costs and grand total

I wanted to add a small section here at the end to acknowledge the tools and additional supplies that we needed to purchase for this project.  While we owned the majority of the tools we use, I know for some people, having access to tools may not be as easy and may increase your cost.  For this project, we purchased a tile saw which greatly decreased the cost that we would have incurred renting a tile saw.  We used the tile saw off and on for roughly 5-10 days and so purchasing one outright made more sense for us.  We also plan to renovate more than one bathroom and help some friends with their kitchens which will continue to offset the cost of purchasing the saw.

Wet Tile Saw – $389

We also used various supplies that we had on hand in terms of caulking, lumber etc and purchased some plumbing items, drywall compound etc.  I will estimate high on these items and add $300 to the final price to factor in those items.

 

Grand Total

• Sink Area: $2529.75
• Toilet Area: $1400
• Shower: $1485.04
• Tile + Supplies: $3110.23
• Additional Supplies: $689

Total: $9214.02

 

After putting together this cost round up, I’m actually surprised! I estimated that it was worth $10K so seeing the number come in under that is a happy surprise.  When I look at the bathroom, I would estimate it adds $20K + value to our home and the money saved by DIY made all the difference.
